Come and explore the many techniques to achieve a bright, realistic floral from a reference photograph. Marianne will demonstrate a complete painting, step by step, giving a wealth of information to help you reach further in your own floral paintings. She will cover glazing, gentle washes backgrounds, values, depth, harmony and much more in a relaxed class with lots of personal attention. Copies of the reference material will be available or work from your own.

This class will show you how to create your own cards, bookmarks and journals for unique gifts or special treasures for yourself. Students will use simple methods to create mono prints to turn into finished original art pieces. You don not need any previous art training for this course but you may want to bring paints and brushes, stamps and favorite things such as pressed flowers and specialty papers to use. Introduction to Body Casting ** 2 sessions - 4 hours each

Session 1 - Nov 3 - 12 pm to 4 pm
Basic introduction to casting and material used, each student will cast their own hand in Hydrocal using a 2 litre juice carton - this will need to dry before finishing the following week, dress in your old clothes, materials used will not come out.
Think about what position you want your hand in or what your want to hold- keep in mind that your hand and any item must fit in a 2 litre juice container eg. Paint brush, sculpting tool etc.
I will also be demonstrating face casting procedure and will be demonstrating various material used including aqua-resign/fiberglass and cold cast bronze.

Session 2 - Nov - 10 12 pm to 4pm
Introduction to finishes, we will be finishing off our hand casts at this time, any students that wants to do a face cast will be able to for an additional fee of $85.00 for materials (in Hydrocal) but must have their own model to cast. You will also be introduced to mold making and material involved.

Teen track is a great way to improve your art skills and develop friendships.
These workshops for teen artists will focus on exploring different mediums in drawing and painting and help improve skills in achieving realistic, representational artworks. Join us for creative Sunday afternoons!

Course Description:
Marianne will be demonstrating her loose representational method for painting landscapes in acrylics. She will base the painting on a reference photograph to express the essence of the subject with areas of more realistic detail. Planning your painting and colour selection will be covered as well as thinning and extending the paint, brushwork, blending, texture, hard and soft edges and more. Copies of reference material will be available but you are welcome to work from your own.

Course Outline:
1.
Introduction and talk on supplies and course.
Demonstration of various ways to prepare your paper for your first masterpiece.
Demonstration of basic brush strokes used in w/c painting.
Time for class to practice these brush strokes on newsprint.
2.
Talk about subject matter and how to choose reference material.
Demonstration on uses of washes through sketches.
Still life set up and fun with brush strokes with individual instruction.
3.
You will learn how to mix your colours and create your own colour wheel. Talk on various paint manufactures and quality of paints and papers. Encourage the use of a tester paper and building a colour guide. The do’s and don’ts of cleaning and care of materials and brushes.
4.
Throughout all sessions above, I will be talking and reminding the class about choosing a picture of reference to paint today. After demonstrating my chosen piece I will turn the class loose on their pictures. Individual instruction works best here.
5.
This session will deal with composition and perspective. We will work on one of the following: techniques: painting snow, water reflections or painting mist in watercolours.

Course Descriptions:
DRAWING - with Instructor: Kelly McNeil
Drawing in perspective. Using HB and 2B pencils and paper you will learn to look at objects with a critical eye. Learn two simple tricks that will allow you to create the illusion of distance and space.

MASTERING MOSAICS - with Instructor Paulette Murphy
In week one you will compost a small arrangement from a selection of glass, pottery, metal, beads & tiles within a frame and glue all in place. The second week is the fun part when we’ll be applying the grout and the final work magically appears. You may want to wear some protective gloves to avoid stained hands from the grout. Don’t wear your best clothes for this part. If you have any broken dishes or small objects you think you would like to add to your mosaic you are welcome to bring them along.

CLAY CREATIONS - With Instructor Nina Delisi-Cromwell
Each student will receive enough clay for 2 projects. All the necessary tools are provided. Please wear an
old shirt or bibbed apron to protect your clothing. We will be doing some experimentation with pinch pots and coil pots. Then you will plan and make a vase, bowl, mask or tile from a slab of clay. These pieces will be bisque fired. The second week you will be glazing your creation and the finished pieces will be fired and ready for pick up the following week.

WATERCOLOURS FOR BEGINNERS - With Instructor Helen Purvis
Understanding the secrets of successful colour mixing. You will learn about warm & cool, complimentary colours and the importance of values. This is a hands on workshop. The second week you will learn about composition and get to use your knowledge from the first class in painting a landscape. If you have a photo of a landscape you would like to paint please bring it along to this class. Also please bring your own HB pencil and a notebook.

Explore add-ons and Sludge to approach newand interesting forms and textures for 2 dimensional art works.

Bring your own acrylic paints, brushes and canvas.
Bring also a sense of adventure to let loose and enjoy these creative explorations.

These drop-ins are designed for people with similar interests to get together and share their artistic interests in a pleasant workshop environment.

It is not necessary to do collographs, artists may drop in and work in other mediums. Space limitations will give preference to those working in the collograph medium.
