Ross OspreyBorn and raised in Etobicoke, I moved to the High Park area of Toronto at 17 spending most of my adult life there. I moved to Brampton almost 4 years ago, a move I hadn't anticipated but one that I haven't regretted.
My artistic interests developed at an early age. My father, an Art Dealer, owned 'Osprey's Picture Company' in the Kingsway district of Toronto for 25 years. When I was 7 he started taking me into the gallery on Saturdays. I was given the impression I was there to work but in actuality I was just taken out of my Mother's hair for the day. Customers would laugh when I'd approach them trying to be of assistance. In my late teens I started working there officially, choosing mat combinations, framing art work, hanging pictures, redressing displays, and this time actually helping the clients.
Rebellious and not wanting to follow in my Dad's footsteps, I made alternate non-artistic career choices throughout my 20's and early 30's, but rarely found work I was content with.
In 1996 I accepted an offer to work for Duncan Dearlove Design Associates as the Owner's Assistant . I was promoted to the role of Interior Design Coordinator shortly after. I'd finally found a fit I was happy with. In the year 2001 I branched off on my own starting 'Specific Interiors'. As a Colour and Space Planning Consultant I'm able to keep my artistic side active, which was the missing link in the positions I'd held in the past.
A genetic disorder started slowing me down 2 years ago, leaving me lethargic and unmotivated. Rediscovering a past interest and picking up a camera again has helped bring me back to the world of the living and has become my passion. I haven't put it down since, and have found my love of photography has influenced an improvement in my health for which I'm very grateful.
I try to focus on telling a story through my eyes in the manually computer enhanced pictures I create, referring to my works as 'Photography with a Twist'. As a Photographer and Member of Beaux-Arts Brampton, I look forward to continuing to capture 'life as I see it' and sharing my visions with you.
