Ted YaoPrimarily a self-taught watercolour painter, Ted came late to art, after a course at George Brown College in Toronto in 1996. He retains many ideas from his first teacher, Stephan Galvanek, who pointed him in the direction of painting on location as a way of using all the information the natural world presents. Ted has also taken courses from schools in Toronto, Southampton and Haliburton, Ontario.
Lately Ted has been exploring printmaking with Paulette Murphy, Susan McCrae and Dawn Friesen at Beaux Art Brampton.
The spontaneity and challenges of plein aire has tempted Ted to set up an easel in Scotland, France, Cuba, Morocco, Taiwan, and Jordan . He also paints closer to home at every opportunity, including Brampton, racing to complete the painting before the light, atmosphere and composition change.
