Sarah CarvalhoSarah Virginia Carvalho B.F.A. (Hons.), M. L. S.
Sarah Carvalho is one of Ontario’s wetland portrait landscape painters. A leader in the art world; her opinions on art have been quoted by the local and regional press alike. Selling her first works, and winning an award for drawing, before she was 20, Sarah studied both visual art and art history, at York University, where she graduated with a four year honors degree. Sarah then continued her education doing graduate work at both York and Western Ontario Universities. She has filled a variety of roles for the art community, from consulting, volunteering, to selecting art rentals for the corporate market, to being art show curator and juror. Today, Sarah is a full time professional artist. In Ontario, some of the locations to purchase works are the Barber Design Group Gallery (Guelph), and the Burdette Gallery (Orton), or by contacting the artist directly. Rental options are through the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre (Guelph) and the Art Gallery of Hamilton. The personal restoration of her 1888 stone country house, south of Grand Valley, Ontario creates a world to reflect her visual sensibilities, a permanent studio gallery to hang her landscape paintings, and art of guest artists . This property known as the 100 Acre Studio Gallery has expanded to include a second 1894 stone country house gallery, all of which is on 250 acres. As a Canadian, Sarah continues many landscape painting traditions, choosing acrylic the most lightfast and durable of all painting mediums. Frames and stretchers are personally hand crafted in solid wood by the artist, or standard stock can be selected. Ducks Unlimited opened her 2003 Dufferin County Museum solo show and in April 2004 General Motors of Canada used her work to launch the Chevy Equinox at 100 Acre Studio Gallery. In 2007 she was the artist in residence for the Highlands Health building on Rolling Hills Drive in Orangeville. At the Art Gallery of Hamilton in 2008, her works were selected by the Acting Chief Curator European Art to be shown in the Jean and Ross Fischer Gallery.
