Anita Verstraete

Anita Verstraete creates whimsical cottage homes, historical homes, gabled doorways and front entrances at her studio. An assemblage of vintage plates, salvaged china, one-of-a-kind beads, tiles, coins, stained and mirrored glass stones, and jewellery, is mosaiced together in the shape of local, international and vacation homes and buildings. Each highly textured piece is unique as the materials used are in very limited quantities.

Verstraete completed her MFA from Southern Illinois University in 1985 and has studied mosaic technique at Haliburton School of the Arts and the Royal Ontario Museum. Her delightful and charming work brings to life the love, energy, thought and creativity that homeowners put into their homes, by creating original interpretations of homes.

Working from photographs of the house she is completing, Verstraete takes approximately three weeks to complete a mosaicAnita Verstraete. If possible, Verstraete takes photographs of the properties herself, for commissions, so that all the important architectural elements of the home can be included in the piece. Alternatively, the customer provides photographs for Anita to work from. Anita also has a selection of completed mosaics available at her studio.
