I was born Toronto, 1950 and started painting at an early age. I studied commercial art at Central Technical School under Doris McCarthy before turning my attention to landscape painting. Many hundreds of hours were spent in the Northern Ontario forests researching, sketching, photographing and painting my subjects. A considerable amount of my childhood was also spent in Nova Scotia where I developed a love for the sea and the Maritime way of life.

My paintings operate on many levels involving form, colour, and place. They aim to visibly document my thoughts and try to express my vision, pulling the viewer into another world. Lately, my artistic visions have taken on a more abstracted quality, experimenting with different media and allowing me to develop new ideas.

My previous work was based on close studies of trees, their many textures, moods and the effects of the various seasons upon them. I developed a great love and respect for nature and painstakingly applied paint to canvas to capture a startling realism and a boldness of colour and texture. My landscapes show the wonderfully varied beauty of the Canadian land. In addition to landscape painting, I have expanded my horizons to portray the rich diversity of our community in the people and their colourful cultural contribution to the Canadian mosaic.

I started exhibiting in 1973 at the Arts-in-the-Parks and then subsequently the Markham Art Show, Carling’s Art Show, Toronto City Hall and many other annual group shows in the Toronto area. I have participated in the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, Kempenfest in Barrie, the Muskoka Art Show, the Junction Arts Festival, the Distillery District Arts Festival, the Burlington Art Market and the University of Guelph Art Exhibition.

My paintings enhance the collections of numerous private and corporate collectors throughout Ontario, and indeed, across CanadaLynne Schumacher. My works are included in the collections of the Royal Bank of Canada, Sunnybrooke and Womens College Hospital and Imperial Oil. The Royal Bank of Canada hosted a reception where my works were featured in a one woman show.

I have received various letters of commendation from noted Canadian galleries. I have been written up in the Toronto Globe and Mail, the Mississauga Times and the Brampton Guardian. I have won first place awards at the Haliburton Art show and the Canadian National Exhibition. Recently, one of my watercolours won a first place in the still life category at the Colour and Form Society juried show.

My recent entries to juried shows includes:

Peel Juried Art Show – 2004, 2005
Visual Arts Mississauga Juried Art Show 2005, 2006
Etobicoke Arts Group Juried Art Show 2005, 2006

Lakeshore Arts Juried Art Show 2006
Caledon Town Hall 2006
Beaux Arts Brampton Christmas 2006
Neilson Park Creative Centre Winter Show 2007

I am a member of Beaux Arts Bramp, Visual Arts Brampton, Visual Arts Mississauga, the Etobicoke Arts Group, Neilsen Park Creative Centre and the Guelph Arts Festival.
